Dr. Chantarat is the Head of Financial System Research at the Puey Ungphakorn Institute for Economic Research at the Bank of Thailand. Her research combines applied theory with micro-econometrics and original field survey and experiments to understand economic development issues related to household finance, rural financial markets, development policies and how they interplay with poverty and welfare dynamics. Her current works involve designing and evaluating impacts of innovative financial products and social safety net programs in developing economies of Asia and Africa. Her works appear in American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Risk and Insurance, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, Journal of Economic Inequality and World Development.
Prior to joining PIER, Dr. Chantarat was a senior economist consultant at the World Bank and a lecturer at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University. She holds BA in Economics (Thammasat University), M.Phil in Economics (University of Cambridge), M.Sc. in Financial Mathematics (University of Chicago) and Ph.D. in Economics (Cornell University).
