Over the past few years, traditional banking business has been beset by a period of low growth and low interest rate on the one hand, and rising competitive pressure from non-banks leveraging on rapid technological advancement on the other. At the same time, new generations of tech-savvy consumers are demanding better digital experiences. The Thai banking industry is under pressure and must adapt.

Session 2: Expanding the Boundary of SME Financial Services
As the nation’s largest employer, SMEs are an integral part of the Thai economy and its development. Yet SMEs’ access to financial services remain constrained. Key obstacles on the SMEs’ side include the lack of credit history, inadequate collateral, and inability to communicate convincing business plans. On the banks’ side, high credit, operational, and regulatory costs owing to inadequate information for credit analysis remain major hurdles.
